Education - building management systems that are functional, inviting, and safe
Accessible doors, preventive fire protection, and protection against vandalism: these are just a few of the keywords that shape demands for door, window, and safety technology in education. GEZE understands these demands and provides individual, solution-oriented advice at every phase of the project.
Innovative building management systems for education
The architecture used in kindergartens, primary, and secondary schools needs to be functional, inviting, and safe. An example: doors and windows play an important role in fire protection and ventilation. Retractable arm drives by GEZE help ensure comfortable daily ventilation – even for hundreds of windows. In preventive fire protection, furthermore, they ensure safe smoke removal, while locking systems improve protection against burglary.
Access for all is part of the planning for any educational facility. Automatic sliding doors and swing doors ensure students can enter the building without third-party assistance. Additional sensors help to open doors automatically, and the free swing function allows the door to be opened with minimum force.
Another important point: Integrated door closers ensure doors and windows shouldn't do not provide any scope for vandalism.
GEZE understands the demands placed on building management systems for kindergartens, primary, and secondary schools, and can support you through every phase of the project.
Entrance areas: inviting and safe
Manual revolving doors in the City of Glasgow College
As soon as you enter an educational institution through the front doors, it’s clear that the building has many demands to fulfil. GEZE solutions can help you here: the main entrance needs to point the way while being inviting, functional and yet safe, since many people will be entering and leaving the building at any one time.
The GEZE interlocking door system, for instance, is a solution that controls access while still allowing large numbers of people to enter the building. Two single or double leaf doors are installed in sequence. These can be combined with manual and accessible escape route solutions. GEZE can help you to combine different requirements, without losing sight of the design.
GEZE products in Glasgow are doing just that: students at one of Europe's newest super colleges, the £228 million City of Glasgow College in the heart of city, are welcomed by GEZE products.
Door systems that don't invite vandalism

Losses due to vandalism can be a tough problem to solve - and not just in schools. GEZE can help you to prevent vandalism with robust, long-lasting, and convenient door solutions. Integrated closing sequence controls, for instance, can be designed so they cannot be destroyed by force. If excess force is applied, they are overridden, ensuring the mechanism is not damaged. Door closers with guide rails or door closers integrated fully into the door leaf instead of systems with joint arms that protrude into the room reduce the danger of abuse.
GEZE installed roughly two hundred interior doors with Boxer series door closers in the FHS St. Gallen University of Applied Sciences. The door closers are fully integrated into the door leaf and cannot therefore be seen. The guide rail is visible only when the doors are open. They are perfect for linear, modern door designs, and also prevent misuse.
Our expertise for kindergartens

Doors fulfil an important function in kindergartens in particular: they must ensure children don't leave the room on their own, yet allow them to leave in an emergency. Adults such as nursery staff, on the other hand, must be able to exit the doors with no problem at any time. Last but not least, parents of children at the kindergarten must be able to enter and leave in a controlled manner.
GEZE offers solutions such as doors operated by push buttons that cannot be reached by children but are easy for staff to operate. If parents call by during the day, they can ring a bell and the door can be unlocked from the inside by push button. Emergency exit protection can also be suspended via a timer during pickup and drop-off times, allowing parents and children to enter and leave unimpeded.
From experience, we know that pinch protection is important in protecting little hands in every kindergarten door solution. This protection features in retro-fittable finger protection guards, which safely cover the gap between the door leaf and the frame. Knobs can also be used to safeguard heavily frequented doors and provide additional finger pinch protection. Different solutions can also be combined according to the facility and its needs.
